Carson Williams is the top ranked shortstop prospect in baseball
The prospect pundits have spoken
The baseball world has spoken and it has deemed Carson Williams as the top shortstop prospect in the game entering the 2025 season.
Carson Williams is considered among the top prospects in the game, with Baseball America dubbing him the 11th best prospect in their most recent update. The 21-year old 2021 first round draft pick has received elite grades for his fielding capabilities and is considered one of the best defensive players in the minor leagues. Williams also has plus-power which he has been able to showcase plenty thus far in his career, hitting 20+ homeruns the past two seasons while also showing an ability to use his above average speed to swipe 33 stolen bases this past year.
There was a point during the 2024 season where it seemed like Williams was on his way to becoming the #1 top prospect in baseball, but his production waned as the season progressed. Regardless, MLB Pipeline said the Williams had the highest ceiling among the top shortstop prospects in baseball.
Williams will still be just 21-years old at the start of the 2025 season, but he’ll likely begin the year as the Durham Bulls starting shortstop in Triple-A.
